A brief history of

"Le Dock sur le bayou"

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^( French version )^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

From 1948 to 1990, the Dock was the center of the Cajun fish and seafood industry in rural southern Louisiana. Alligator, catfish, blue crab and crawfish were among the Louisiana delicacies processed and shipped fresh daily from the Dock along Pierre Part Bay.

The family-owned seafood business first operated as "Breaux & Landry" in the 1940's, a partnership of two Pierre Part men who were cousins. This arrangement lasted only a few years but the business kept growing. In 1950, the marriage of Roberta Breaux and Alger Daigle brought together the families that would remain seafood business partners for the next 40 years, operating as "Breaux & Daigle, Inc."

During the next four decades, Breaux & Daigle, Inc. grew into a multi-faceted enterpr ise. The fish dock and seafood processing plant continued to grow, wholesaleing additional freshwater and saltwater Louisiana products like garfish, turtle and caviar. The original 1,400 square foot 2-story structure, constructed primarily of wood and cement on creosote treated pilings, was expanded several times to accommodate the growing business. Additional equipment such as commercial ice machines, freezers and generators were brought in as technology advanced.

Over the years, Breaux & Daigle, Inc. provided jobs and income for hundreds of fishermen and women, factory seafood pickers, packers and processors. The Breaux & Daigle families and workers contributed their time and resources generously to the schools, churches, civic organizations and events that helped Pierre Part grow into the thriving community it is today.

The Breaux & Daigle, Inc. seafood processing plant closed its doors in 1990. After standing vacant for several years, this historic waterfront facility has been fully renovated to welcome overnight guests. The renovation process between 1997 and 1999 had many phases including disposal of unused factory supplies, dismantlement and removal of equipment, rewiring, replumbing, reroofing, carpentry, deck repair, painting, and decorating. The resulting four guest rooms and apartments represent a remarkable transition from the old to the new.

Visit Le Dock and experience the rural Cajun lifestyle -past and present- in modern, waterfront accommodations.
